Physiotherapists use exercises, manual therapy, education, and specialized equipment to help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, or conditions affecting the muscles, joints, and bones.

Concussion Physiotherapy is a specialized type of physiotherapy aimed at helping individuals recover from concussions, which are mild traumatic brain injuries. This therapy focuses on managing symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, balance issues, and visual disturbances that are common after a concussion. Concussion physiotherapists use tailored exercises to improve balance, coordination, and strength, and may also work on vestibular rehabilitation to address issues with the inner ear and dizziness. The goal is to safely guide the person back to daily activities and sports, ensuring a full recovery while preventing further injury.

As even the mildest bump can cause severe damage, concussions change the way the brain functions.
The physical, short-term effects are clear and commonly understood. These generally include headaches, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness, among other symptoms. Symptoms may be short or long term and is unique to every individual.

Less commonly acknowledged in concussions are the emotional and psychological effects, which include anxiety, depression, loneliness, a new fear some experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
We support the individual in the aftermath of their concussion and guide them in becoming stronger in your mental heal mind-set.

Kinesiology is often applied in rehabilitation, sports performance, injury prevention, and fitness training. Kinesiologists may use various techniques, including exercise programs, posture correction, and manual therapy, to help individuals recover from injuries or optimize their movement for better health and performance.

My goal as a therapist is to help people bring their actions into congruence with their values and beliefs. I aim to foster an increase in self-esteem, and self-worth along with self efficacy while allowing clients to explore their competencies, their worthiness and deservingness to live and to love and accept all possible version of themselves. I believe safety and respect need to be at the center of all the work I do while maintaining a non-judgmental environment. Using a holistic approach with integrated evidence and strength-based therapies we can work together to equip you with necessary tools to live a meaningful and full life. Matthew grew up in Montreal, QC, where he sampled a wide variety of sports and eventually focused his energy in sprint kayaking. After many years of competing and coaching in the sport, he obtained a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Exercise Science at Concordia University, and became a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He went on to graduate from McGill University with a Masters of Physiotherapy, and worked in Montreal before moving to Kelowna in the summer of 2021.

Matthew is a physiotherapist with a comprehensive approach to optimizing patients. His knowledge and experience in physical conditioning strengthens his practice to guide patients throughout their entire rehab back to sport and performing to their full potential. His approach includes motor control, manual therapy, and therapeutic exercise. Matthew has a keen interest in running injuries, and also addresses vestibular and temporomandibular disorders. He will happily work with you in English or French.

Matthew values the importance of professional development, and has attended a variety of continuing education courses, notably those from the Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute, SMARTERehab, and The Running Clinic. His interest in sports and healthcare drew him to the physiotherapy profession. Ryan Niven is a registered physiotherapist who grew up in Surrey, BC. From a young age, Ryan was actively involved in various sports, which sparked his passion for physical activity and ultimately led him to pursue a career in physiotherapy. In 2021, he graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy, and began his professional journey in private practice, specializing in concussion management and a wide range of sport-related injuries.

In early 2025, Ryan made the move to Kelowna and is excited to continue helping patients achieve their goals at CCK. His approach to treatment combines hands-on therapy, exercise, and education, ensuring a comprehensive and effective plan for recovery. Additionally, Ryan is trained in IMS dry needling.
